Start with your city
Most cities have rules for fence height, front-yard fences and visibility on corner lots. Some require a permit or review for taller fences. Rules differ between cities, so check with yours.
Then your HOA
Many newer neighborhoods have CC&Rs that set the fence material, color and height, and some require approval before you build. Submitting a simple plan with the product and layout usually speeds things up.
Know your property line
- Look at your plat or survey before you build
- Look for property pins at the corners of your lot
- Talk with neighbors about shared fences and costs
- Consider setting the fence slightly inside your line if unsure
Call before you dig
Contact Blue Stakes of Utah 811 before any digging so buried utility lines are marked. Professional installers typically handle this as part of the job.
